Overcoming the Pride of Life

Overcoming the Pride of Life

Life beckons with many forms of sugar-coated lures that could easily make us give in and fall… Life and its pride entice beyond one could resist! And many would shrug it off and say, “Why should it matter if I revel in success, fame and fortune when I worked so hard for these after all?” And I would have to agree that’s true! You worked so hard to be where you are at right now and you deserve every sweet taste of success there is to enjoy!
While there is nothing wrong with that, I have to caution you to keep both feet on the ground, heart checked against the truth in the book of Life and mind fully alert to the prodding of the One higher and bigger than all of us.

Over coffee with my friend, she narrated how a very rich friend of hers who married an even richer woman is currently so down and totally devastated because his accomplished wife is in comatose and hospital bills have now piled up amounting to $10 million. They’ve already lost their properties and “friends” have turned their backs on them. Relatives have tried to help but only to a certain extent. She goes on to say that this couple used to be very proud of their accomplishments and would claim everything to be their own and that nothing will go wrong. They were very busy to care and share what they have and know to add value to people’s lives.

Now that their lives took a different and definitely unexpected turn, they were too astonished to know that they weren’t both invincible, they needed true friends, their pride won’t pay for the bills and that there’s Someone higher than them that they are desperately clinging on to now because He is the only one sustaining them…

Pride is truly dangerous and can be blinding.. It desensitizes us to the many things we should be cognizant about — to share more of what we know and propel people to succeed in life, like us. Pride makes us destructively consume ourselves with our own selfish intentions, becoming so boastful of what seemingly are our talents and wins that we quickly credit ourselves for. Pride makes people around us non-existent and insignificant. It only makes us see what we have and constantly revs us and our senses to plan to acquire so much more!

We need to be careful. We need to number our days aright for tomorrow is not promised. What we do for others and those accomplishments that we lovingly dedicate to our Maker are the only things that will remain. And in the course of time, when life takes its sudden turn, we are ready and prepared because we hold on to nothing but His grace and strength. He gives strength to those who wait on Him daily and He prospers them beyond what they can ever think or imagine!

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” Malachi 3:10

It is good to celebrate and be happy for the work of our hands but we should be careful not to be consumed by the pride of life. Everything must be surrendered to our Maker daily for purification and He is faithful to keep adding unto us. With the right attitude of the heart, there is nothing to fear and no worry to entertain every day of our lives!!

Numbering my days aright with you!
